How to Select the Best Golf Coach and Program
Getting a golf coach to help you reach the next level in the game is a great idea, but not just any coach will do. You want to find a coach that is experienced, comfortable working with the level of golfer that you are currently, and offers lessons within your budget. While most courses have a golf pro on staff who will be glad to provide you with lessons, it is smart to do a little research and looking around before settling on the right coach for you.
Because there are so many golf coaches available to learn from, you can afford to be a little bit picky and wait until you find just the right fit. Look for the following traits in finding that golf coach that will be perfect to help you take your game to the next level.
- Experience. There is no substitute for experience when teaching golf, so find a coach that has been in the business for many years and has worked with countless students along the way. That experience will help them when they are diagnosing your swing and offering tips for your improvement. All you need to do is ask a potential coach about their background and they should be able to tell you how long they have been teaching.
- Philosophy. What is their philosophy regarding teaching the golf swing? Some coaches are more ‘feel based’, while others prefer to dig into the technical details of every move you make. There is no right or wrong in this case, but you should find a coach that has a style which fits your way of thinking. Are you a technical person, or more creative? Think about yourself first, and then find a coach that suits your style.
- Availability and Location. When and where does the golf coach teach that you are considering working with? If the lessons are too inconvenient to fit into your schedule, you might find yourself skipping it instead of sticking to a predetermined lesson plan. Make sure that the time and location of your lessons will be easy to fit into your current lifestyle so you can get to and from the lessons without undue effort or accommodation. Making it as easy as possible should help to keep you on track and let your focus be completely on the task of improving your game.
