How to Get an Extra 15 Yards off the Tee
If you are looking for some extra distance off the tee, you aren’t alone. All golfers would love to hit their tee shots just a little bit further – or even a lot further. While you never want to sacrifice accuracy in the name of distance, longer drives can make it easier to score well by giving you shorter approach shots to deal with. Of course, getting those extra yards on your tee shots is considerably easier said than done.
Below you will find a few tips on how to add distance to your drives. Try putting one or more of these tips into action and see if you are able to start moving your ball a little bit further down the fairway.
- Optimize your equipment. Distance has more to do with your swing than it does the club you are using – but it can still help you have your equipment checked to make sure it matches up correctly with your swing characteristics. Take your driver to an experienced club fitting professional and have them analyze your swing with your current driver to see if there are any areas that can be improved.
- Add flexibility. You don’t have to have huge muscles to hit long drives, but being flexible does help. Work on gaining flexibility in your core muscles, along with your arms and hands, in order to add swing speed, and distance to your drives. If you aren’t familiar with exercises that can help you become more flexible, considering going to a gym and working with a qualified personal trainer.
- Make better contact. Everyone tries to swing harder in order to get more distance on their tee shots – but often, it is as simple as making contact in the center of the club face more consistently. When you put the sweet spot of the club right onto the back of the ball, you can get impressive distance even without swinging as hard as you can.
- Keep your balance. Good balance will allow you to rotate through the swing confidently without any hesitation at the point of impact. If you swing so hard that you start to lose your balance during the downswing, you are unlikely to make good contact and will probably lose distance as a result. Focus mostly on balance and you are likely to be satisfied with the results.
