Golf Getaways in Portugal: Vale Do Lobo Resort Review

The southern part of Portugal, Algarve, is host to a beautiful resort called Vale do Lobo. The resort is a child of 1960s, being developed primarily for golfers. It consists of two championship courses set in the backdrop of pine trees and red-tiled apartments. You can explore this place quite easily; the beachfront can be reached through the main road. Here, you will find La Praca, the main square, buzzing with restaurants and bars.

The beach

You would not hit upon more convenient beach than that of Vale do Lobo resort. The resort also provides a free shuttle service to the beach. The long stretch of two kilometers consists of golden sands, which are rimmed by unique terracotta cliffs. The fans of water sports and the swimmers can have the fun of their life in the Atlantic waves. You can satisfy your hunger pangs at La Praca’s restaurants and bars. The ice-cream parlors are also there to handle your sweet tooth cravings.

For golfers

You cannot fall short of golf in Vale do Lobo with two 18-hole golf at the place, the Royal and the Ocean. The former is a challenging golf course that dares you to tee off along the edge of the cliff. The 16th hole of the Royal is exceptionally tricky, where the golfers are required to drive across the ravines. The place truly tests their nerves.

The next course, the Ocean, is the outcome of the British golfer, Sit Henry Cotton’s imagination and efforts. It was designed back in time during the inception of Vale do Lobo. The Ocean is famous for its breathtaking scenery around the course.

The daytrips

The best places of Algarve lie at your doorsteps during your stay in Vale do Lobo. There is a nearby village by the name of Sao Lourenco, where you will find a beautiful church dating back to 18th century. The church is designed with Portuguese style white and blue Azulejo tiles. Then, there is Loulé, which is just 10 minutes far from the church and comprises of the parts of an old castle.

Faro is only 30 minute drive further from the resort- if you want to witness Chapel of Bones and the old quarter Cathedral. The Chapel of Bones is actually decorated using the bones of hundreds and thousands of monks.

Other things to do

When you want to indulge in some other sports excluding golf, you can come to any one of the 14 tennis courts. The water sports, indoor and outdoor games never let you get bored. In addition, you can buy souvenirs from the shopping center. Here, you will also find a beauty center, a bank, a newsstand, and many boutiques.
